FAQ
Questions, answered straight.
Top questions across what Sutrace is, pricing, residency, protocols, security & compliance, and migration.
What Sutrace is
What is Sutrace?
Sutrace is a B2B observability platform that unifies four signal surfaces — industrial hardware (PLCs, SCADA, fleet), software infrastructure (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Kubernetes), web & APIs (uptime, synthetics, status pages), and AI agents (LLM cost, latency, prompt safety) — in one dashboard.
Who is Sutrace for?
Mid-market SREs and platform engineers who got priced out of Datadog; controls engineers and plant managers who can't justify Rockwell or Ignition's per-tag licensing; DevOps teams stitching Pingdom + Atlassian Statuspage; AI engineers comparing LangSmith / Helicone / Langfuse.
What does Sutrace not do?
Sutrace observes; it does not control. We are not a replacement for safety-rated process control, an HMI / DCS, Cloudflare at the edge, or a CDN. We are not FedRAMP / CMMC certified — defer those if you sell to US Federal.
Pricing & residency
Does Sutrace charge per tag, per metric, or per host?
We charge a flat per-source price with a generous default cardinality cap. Where you exceed the cap, attribution is shown before ingest, not after — so you decide whether the new label sprawl is worth the bill.
Where does Sutrace store my data?
EU workspaces stay in europe-west3 (Frankfurt). US workspaces stay in us-central1 (Iowa). Self-hosted deployments stay on your infrastructure. See /legal/dpa for the full transfer-mechanism stack.
Is there a free tier?
Yes, free for one surface and 5 sources. No credit card required. Export is always free.
Protocols & ingest
What protocols does Sutrace speak?
28 across four surfaces — Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, CAN, BACnet, IEC 61850, HART-IP, MQTT (Sparkplug B); OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, StatsD, Syslog, Kubernetes API, Postgres/MySQL pg_stat, Docker; HTTP, gRPC, GraphQL, WebSocket, REST (OpenAPI), Webhook; OpenAI-compatible LLM, MCP, vector stores, agent frameworks.
Does Sutrace support OpenTelemetry natively?
Yes. Native OTLP for traces, metrics, and logs — both gRPC (port 4317) and HTTP. Sutrace is OTel-first, not OTel-bolt-on.
Can I use the Sutrace SDK without LangChain?
Yes. The Python and TypeScript SDKs are framework-agnostic. They work with raw OpenAI / Anthropic / Bedrock SDKs and via OpenRouter-style multi-provider gateways.
Security & compliance
Does Sutrace exfiltrate prompts and request bodies?
No. Default on-host redaction strips raw PLC register values, LLM prompts/completions, HTTP request/response bodies > 1 KB, user-identifying log fields, and camera frames. We send tokens, hashes, and metadata. See /legal/security.
Are you GDPR-compliant?
Yes. Lead supervisory authority is the BfDI (Germany). DPA template at /legal/dpa includes 2021 SCCs Modules 2+3, the UK ICO Addendum, the Swiss FDPIC overlay, and CCPA service-provider clauses.
Are you SOC 2 certified?
Type I scheduled for end of month 3 from a CPA partner shortlist. Type II follows with a 6-month observation window. ISO 27001 in year 2 if EU enterprise pipeline warrants. Until then, we publish a CAIQ short-form at /legal/caiq and policy drafts at /admin/policies (under NDA on request).
Migration & integration
How long does it take to migrate from Datadog?
For most teams, week one is collector swap + dashboards rebuilt for the top 10 services. Week two is alert routing + SLOs. Week three is the long-tail of dashboards. The migration playbook lives at /blog/migrating-from-datadog-to-otel-the-week-one-checklist.
Can I keep using Grafana for visualization?
Yes. Sutrace exposes a PromQL-compatible read endpoint and an OTLP-native one. Point Grafana at either.
Can I run Sutrace next to my existing PLC stack?
Yes, that is the recommended path. We are a read-only observer by default; no PLC program changes required. See /use-cases/industrial-monitoring-mid-market.
